wonderful morning to be back in the alps

from dinkelsbuhl we cycled another 40km south
through lush rolling farmland and found
 an even older medieval village
we strayed from the romantic road and took the pfronten allgau dairy land route to the alps and castles       the allgau is known as germanys cheese kitchen
built in the center of a large basin formed 15 million years ago by a giant asteroid hitting earth
nordlingen we found more interesting being less touristy and having a more lively local flavor known as the ries region this very fertile area has the fitting name  bavarias bread basket

we spent a restful night at nordlingens mill house b&b and were treated
to a generous country breakfast to help us on our way
beginning in the wine country of wurzburg this world renowned cycle route runs 425 kilometers through beautiful undulating farmland woods brooks and meadows and river valleys dotted with baroque villages  before finally reaching  the fairy tale castles of the bavarian alps    once upon a
time pilgrims crusaders  roman armies  and waring emperors  travelled this ancient road to rome      todays armies of tourists can be avoided by seeking out the more rewarding less trodden path
a bicycle does an admirable job of this
